Personal:
Welcome to first grade! My name is Lisa Cain, and I’m your child’s first grade teacher this year. Before I go over the classroom procedures and rules, I’d like to introduce myself. I grew up in a military family as a child. My father was in the Air Force for 30 years. This gave my family the wonderful opportunity to travel and live in many different countries and states. I have lived in Taiwan, Philippines, Okinawa, Washington State, New Jersey, Kansas, and Oklahoma. My mother is from Okinawa, a tiny island off of Japan.
My husband, Jeremy, and I have been married for 21 years. I also have an eighteen year old son named Ethan. He will be attending the University of Missouri as a freshman.. Where does the time go? It just seems like yesterday that he was in first grade at Zahnow. We also have a black lab dog named Kenai. He adds a lot of joy to our family. When I’m not teaching, my family enjoys going to the beach in the summer, boating at Lake of the Ozarks, watching movies, and spending time with our friends and family.

Professional:
On a professional note, I have been teaching for 20 years. I received my bachelor’s degree in education from SIUE in 1996. After I received my degree, I moved to Oklahoma and taught second grade for two years. After two years, my husband and I moved back to Illinois and decided to make Waterloo our home. I was soon hired as a fifth grade teacher for the district. I taught fifth grade for four years before the opportunity became available for me to switch to third grade. During that time, I received my master’s degree from McKendree University. After seven wonderful years in third grade, I switched once again to first grade. This will be my 8th year teaching first grade. As you can see, I have a diverse teaching background.
